Our heritage
History, heritage and tradition are all important factors to A E Davey and Sons Funeral Directors. Yet we also recognise the need to move with the times.

With a heritage spanning nearly a century, A E Davey and Sons Funeral Directors was originally owned and established by Mr. Walter Lippiatt.

After serving in the War, Arthur Edward Davey returned to Nailsea in 1947 where he understudied Mr. Edwin Lippiatt, the local funeral director and Mr. Walter Lippiatt’s son.

Edwin Lippiatt retired during the 1950s and left the business to Arthur E Davey.

Arthur's two sons, Tony and Colin, joined the firm from school and, after his death in 1985, continued to expand and develop the business into the highly regarded A E Davey and Sons Funeral Directors that you know today.  In 1986, A E Davey and Sons moved from the Clevedon Road site to new purpose-built premises in Silver Street, Nailsea.

A E Davey and Sons’ successes were further highlighted in 1998 with the incorporation of John Irving Funeral Directors, Banwell.

Since Colin’s retirement in 2004, and his sad death in March 2011, A E Davey and Sons Funeral Directors is now controlled solely by Tony Davey. 

Keeping up family tradition
December 2009 welcomed Nicola, the third generation of the A E Davey family, as a Funeral Director.

Nicola has worked in the background for many years and, throughout her time with A E Davey and Sons Funeral Directors, she has gained invaluable experience and knowledge.  Nicola’s sensitive, caring and professional work ethic continues to receive much praise from clients.
