Advice… the first steps
When death occurs
It is never too soon to contact us. Please call a member of the Arthur E Davey and Sons Funeral Directors team on +44(0)1275-852307. Once you call upon us to arrange a funeral, we will take complete responsibility for the organisation of every detail involved. So you and your family are as free as possible of unnecessary worry and stress at this difficult time.
What to do next
If death occurs at home
You should call your Doctor first who will attend to confirm death. Alternatively, if a nurse or other qualified person is in attendance, please give your permission for the body to be moved to A E Davey and Sons’ premises. The A E Davey and Sons Funeral Directors team will then guide you through the next steps.
If death occurs in a nursing or residential home
The nursing or residential home staff will normally contact your chosen funeral director on your behalf. The A E Davey and Sons Funeral Directors team will then guide you through the next steps.
If death occurs in a hospital
The hospital’s medical staff will confirm death. Unfortunately, there is little the A E Davey and Sons Funeral Directors team can do out of office hours; however, you are very welcome to call us at any time for advice, support, or assistance. The A E Davey and Sons Funeral Directors team will then guide you through the next steps.
If the coroner is involved
If death is unexpected or unnatural, the coroner will need to order a postmortem examination and may require an inquest, depending upon the circumstances. Please do not worry; it is unusual for the funeral to be delayed. The A E Davey and Sons Funeral Directors team will explain the procedures and processes to you in thorough detail, and we shall guide you through the next steps.
